Chance to learn from the experts at jazz summer school

Jazzlines is holding its first Summer School next month, offering young Birmingham musicians with a passion for jazz the chance to learn from professional musicians. It will be held at Birmingham Conservatoire between Monday 6 August and Friday 10 August 2012.

This exciting new development is programmed by the Jazzlines and Education and Community teams at Town Hall and Symphony Hall, and offers instrumentalists and vocalists aged between 14 -19 an exciting opportunity to receive guidance and tuition in jazz performance, composition and ensemble playing.

The teaching team, a experienced group of music professionals and specialist jazz performers, composers and educators, will be led by Percy Pursglove, Sara Colman and Andrew Bain, and supported by the Jazzlines Ensemble trio of Ric Yarborough, James Banner and Reuben James.

Each day will run from 9.30am until 3.30pm with the exception of Friday 10 August, when Jazzlines Summer School participants will take part in a performance before invited family and friends ending at 4pm. There will also be follow up performance opportunities at the Free Jazz gigs in Symphony Hall Café Bar.

Twenty places are available to young jazz enthusiasts of approximately grade 5 standard in music. The closing date for applications is this Friday, so don’t delay. To find out more and to fill in an application form, just go here.
