Garry was there with his camera to catch Gilad Atzmon’s latest trio at the Birmingham Jazz Barton Arms gig on Sunday. He writes:
The trio featured Gilad on saxes and clarinet, Asaf Sirkis, drums and Ross Stanley on keyboards. The keyboard had a Hammond organ bias which was used to great effect. Asaf Sirkis’ drumming added the power and Gilad was his usual inventive self. His surreal introductions to what amounted to a set of standards were as original as the trio’s take on those standards. A very powerful band delivering inventive re-workings of numbers you thought you might have heard done to death.
