On the Birmingham jazz scene, the students are very good at doing it for themselves, and they start doing that very early on.
Lee Griffiths is a first-year student at Birmingham Conservatoire and is flexing his promotional muscle by putting on a gig on Wednesday. It features two bands led by fellow Conservatoire students.
The gig is at the Churchills Snooker Club on Stephenson Street and comprises a double-bill of the Chris Young Sextet and the Lottie Hodgson Quintet. Chris is a lively alto saxophonist and his band has previously played the Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul Festival. Lottie Hodgson is a vibrant vocalist and does good things in interaction with Young who is also a vital part of her band.
The gig is at 9pm, and all are welcome.
