Lovers of the modern piano trio should get along to the Adrian Boult Hall on Wednesday 13 February for one of the most-talked about groups of this kind in Europe.
It is led by pianist Michael Wollny, has Eva Kruse on double bass and Eric Schaefer on drums, and is called [em] (thank heavens I could find the square brackets on my keyboard). Here they are:
This is a late addition to an already exciting Spring programme from Jazzlines, and is a very welcome chance to hear this band in concert. The new [em] album, Wasted And Wanted, came out early last year on the ACT label, and more recently I have been also listening to Wollny on record with the 80-year-old saxophonist Heinz Sauer, also on ACT. Both are impressive.
The Guardian‘s John Fordham gave [em] a five-star review for their performance at Ronnie Scott’s last March.
