Sunshine from Gary Burton and Julian Lage to cheer up a miserable May day

Fresh from their appearance at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival (review here), vibraphone master Gary Burton and his young guitar protege Julian Lage popped into the Jazz On 3 studios to record a session that went out last night.

You can hear them on the iPlayer for the next seven days, but in the meantime here is a lovely little video:

Last night’s programme also featured a session from the Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko and his great New York Quartet, with Cuban pianist of the moment David Virelles (he was also at Cheltenham, but with Ravi Coltrane), Thomas Morgan on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums. I reviewed the band’s recent ECM CD here.

Get a listen to them live and the Burton/Lage duo on BBC Radio 3′s Jazz On 3 here.
