Further back than I might like to remember – and he might very well feel the same way – I attended a couple of weekend workshops with Stafford saxophonist Chris Gumbley. They were so thoroughly enjoyable that I can whole-heartedly recommend a similar experience to anyone, no matter how mature of age and modest of ability, who is trying to get better at playing a musical instrument.
It’s tempting to dismiss the summer schools as only for the young, but I was not young when I attended those courses and neither were many of my course-mates. And anyway, learning music is refreshingly non-ageist. And everyone is equal when trying to master the dorian mode…
So I was delighted to get news from Chris of a Music For You Summer School Jazz Course he is involved with at Biggleswade, near Bedford, from 12 to 16 August. He is just one of the lead tutors – the others are Chris Shelley (guitar and bass guitar) and Sam Brown (drums). In addition Mick Buxton will be assisting the pianists.
Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or an advanced player, the tutors will be able to help you. You’ll be placed in a group of similar ability, and in addition to the daytime tuition there are evening jam sessions.
The course fees are very reasonable. For more information, go here.
